Initial Thoughts-sept 24
-a space that merges the knowledge that forests have with the knowledge that libraries have, together with the knowledge that the exhibition visitors and participants have. is this the space for ‘rituals’ to happen? interested in that ‘ritual space’ for regular discussions?
-forest knowledge + knowledge related to reading/writing/discussing
- two performance readings (the tree-time one and a new one based on the letter-writing workshop from Losæter) and a collective reading workshop.
- incorporate 'communication capsules' of the letter writing workshop in the artworks exhibited (sound piece, forest library installation, an artist book/scrapbook of the workshops or just of the letter writing workshop)
- bring in elements of the tree-time project in as well (the scrapbook from the part 1 workshops in May, pictures).
- also the artist book I made for Henie Onstad as it's related to my practice of storymaking and storytelling.
installation
-The installation will involve a hanging leaf curtain, hanging branches, carpet/area for sitting, maybe on tree logs, wall artworks, and two/three hanging textiles that represent the pages of a book on which I'll write keywords from the letter-writing workshop, but also leaves, and symbols/pictograms? (asemic writing-like, which is also something I'm interested in exploring).
- also spoke about having a recording of Mimmi, Cole and I talking and introducing our practice and what the exhibition is about, which can be played either on a tv with headphones attached or just something you can hear while walking through the space.
workshop
- methode de l’arpentage
- education populaire (popular education directly translated, exists all over the world I’m sure, what is it called in Norway)
- reading group where we read a text and then discuss it in the end
- I'm thinking that the reading group text can maybe be another one of Le Guin's essays ('Telling is Listening') as it has more to do with communication and maybe more suited to this idea of social discourse and collective reading/writing/discussing.
- format: we divide the text into as many parts as there are participants. each participant has 40mins to read text and make notes. then we come back together, each has 5mins to present a summary of their own perception and understanding of their passage, not a summary of the passage. everyone is to write down keywords of what each person is presenting. then a 1hr (?) discussion on the text, passages, comments on the presentations, what it made us think of and where is that thinking going, etc... keywords are made into a publication of some sort? then and there? or is it sent to the particpiants at a later date?
- why we make art and why we share it? (learning mind experience into art, mary jane jacobs + jacquelynn baas)
- Forest Library, what’s the link between forests and libraries (paper, imagination growing and developing, planting a seed for an idea to germinate, knowledge in libraries and knowledge in forests)
- FINAL MASTER EXHIBITION: forest pop-up library in the forest, installation up for 2 days (?), maybe collaborate with a library regarding this? performances, workshops?
QUICK MOODBOARD- lighting, hanging elements (meeting with Seilduken 14.09)
