CONTEXTUALISATION - LECTURE 3

Lecture 3 + Seminar - 20.11+ 21.11
Art, Love & Politics

-  returning to entanglement, becoming, etc..   (geopolitics, bodypolitics, race + class, environment crisis...)

- Lorde : being + sensing is political
- who has subjectivity (both in private and public space)
- why we have to hold on to materiality - solidarity is political.
- ALL OF THIS IS LINKED TO EXISTING VIA CONNECTIONS OF BODY + OBJECT (linked to ontology)
- Lorde is re-defining the erotic: erotic= experience that comes out of a doing, feeling of exisiting, living).
- erotic is not pornographic (needs to be removed from pornographic).
- erotic= chaos of feelings and we should ‘stay with’ that for a while (link to Haraway).
- feeling has a power (taking power, giving power, feeling power, agency, subjectivity).
- the spiritual+political= false distinction, there is no difference between the two.
-’as women we need to examine the ways in which our world can be truly different’ how can the world be different?
- ‘the master’s too will never dismantle the master’s house’
- check her essays on parenting
- the erotic as nurture= care for ourseles and others.
- ‘the erotic is the nurturer or nursemaid of all our deepest knowledge’
- hierarchies of sensation but there’s no difference between the importance of each sensation (experience). the difference is the intensity.
- difference + otherness
- sharing of joy (sharing as a bridge, sharing of emotional, intellectual, sharing as the basis of understanding what is shared between bodies, which lessens the threat, the difference.
- check what she means with difference between people but also conflicting differences within the industrial.
- being other. how is the other the other? how is the other different?
- connecting: connecting inwards and outwards, but also in detachment. togetherness. bonding. like Haraway’s situated knowledge. about feeling + experience as knowledge.

- erotic knowledge situated in your context and this knowledge empowers us (’forcing us to evaluate these aspects in terms of their relative meaning within our lives’ that’s affective relations, relations b/w bodies of different kinds, collective healing + caring.

- the erotic as power to connect with others.
- ‘connecting with our similarities and our difference’: it’s relational thinking.
- HOW AND WHO IS MAINTAINING THESE POWER STRUCTURES
- the erotic cannot be felt second hand

- ‘this deep participation has often been the forerunner for joint concerted actions not possible before’ new possibilties + new energies, new ‘futures’. EMBODIED KNOWLEDGE.

- La Siembra, Carolina Caycedo: sowing as resistance. self-care. (link to my ‘spiritual’ practice). https://www.e-flux.com/journal/129/484604/la-siembra-the-sowing/ (read in relation to linking oppressed human bodies and non-human bodies)

- Povinelli text is related to solidarity. choosing who you are solidarizing with (with whom/what) we are making ties of solidarity. how do we define solidarity.
- check Franco ‘Bifo’ Berardi book on breathing
- she wants to challenge how late liberalism uses different ontologies og human + non-human arrangements of existence.
