BRIEF
Contextualization 1 and 3 include theory, reflection, methodology, art history in general, and the history of art in public space in particular. Theoretical content ranges from general art theory to specialized theory for art in public spaces. The student will become familiar with critical reflection and discussion, also developing an ability for the same, both in relation to his/her own artistic practice and in relation to other disciplines and areas of activity in society.

The topic for the Spring semester 2023 is Art and Ecology. The course introduces ways of thinking about art and ecology as articulated in art practice and theory in the 20th and 21st Centuries. The objective of the course is to give insight into the historical exchanges between artistic practices and environmental concerns with a focus on contemporary art, as well as critical tools for discussing concepts of nature, knowledge, space, ecology, and human and nonhuman forms of matter.

The course invites students to engage in critical and close readings of both philosophical texts and artworks and movements from a range of historical periods, relevant to their own work.

The course requires independent research and reading.
