COMMUNICATION- workshops - Helena Elias

DAY 2 + 3-  27 + 28.02.24- see full notes transcript here

summary of notes:

    THOUGHTS
  • Experimenting with the tactile/ uses of senses before thinking of what to make, intuitive way of working

  • Harks back to what MARI (JERSTAD) said about using your senses before ‘the knowledge’

  • Didn’t feel like being precise with the recipes, used intuition instead, nice to have the time to experiment without necessarily an outcome
  • DAY 3- clay + drawing blindfolded
    - Makes you treat time in another way
-Drawing blindfolded to force you to use your other senses. (ROBERT MORRIS ARTIST)
       - Similar to the auto-writing technique (DO IT IN THE PRINTING WORKSHOP AT LOSÆTER)

  • THOUGHTS
- Using touch a lot
- Can eventually manage to feel the slight differences in the texture the ‘crayon’ left behind (from one crayon to the next)
- Very freeing because it didn’t matter much what I was drawing
- But I still used the crayons like pens (ie only used the tip of the crayon at first)

  • MAP OF ALL THE WORKS- Helene Elias: a way to ‘quote’ other artist/our own peers in a visual way, not just quoting in the essay sense of the word.
